The Illinois Chapter is pleased to announce its 2012 student scholarship program. This year we have two scholarships to award; our annual Illinois Chapter Scholarship and the first Steven H. Gebler Scholarship.

Illinois Chapter Scholarship
To promote the development of future members of the concrete industry, the ACI Illinois Chapter has established the ACI-Illinois Chapter Scholarship Award. The annual Scholarship Award provides financial assistance for undergraduate-level students pursuing course work in an engineering program related to the concrete industry. The ACI - Illinois Chapter provides funding for the Scholarship Award . The Scholarship Award presentation will be made at the ACI Illinois Chapter Annual Dinner held on Saturday, May 12th, 2012 at Trump Tower, Chicago, Illinois. The amount of the award this year is $2,500.
 
Any student who has completed at least two (2) years of study toward their bachelor degree (civil, structural or materials engineering) may apply for the Scholarship Award. To receive consideration for the Award, the student must currently reside in the State of Illinois and be enrolled at a university in Illinois. Additionally, a student attending an institution of higher education outside of the state is eligible for the award if it can be demonstrated that residence within the State of Illinois was maintained prior to attending that institution.
 
Steven H Gebler Scholarship
Steven H Gebler was a Sr. Principal Engineer at CTLGroup, Skokie Illinois. Mr. Gebler joined The Portland Cement Association's Construction Technology Laboratories Division (now CTLGroup) in 1979 as an associate research engineer in the Concrete Materials Research Department. Mr. Gebler was recognized nationally and internationally for his expertise with concrete, especially shotcrete. He was a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute and an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and ASTM International.
 
Mr. Gebler lost his battle with liver cancer in 2006 but as one of his last efforts in his continuous support of the concrete industry he requested that upon his passing donations be made to the Illinois Chapter of ACI-IL to support a scholarship for future engineers with a passion for concrete and concrete related materials. The amount of the Gebler Award is $5,000.
 
Applications must be received by Friday April 27, 2012. The Scholarship committee will review the applications for completeness and correctness of information. All applications that meet the requirements will be considered for the award.
